What is martillo de tor?

Martillo de tor is a traditional Spanish percussion instrument commonly used in flamenco music. It is also known as cajón flamenco or simply cajón.

The martillo de tor is essentially a wooden box that is played by hitting it with the hand in a specific way to create a deep and resonant drum sound. The backside of the box typically has a hole to allow for greater resonance and a snare system inside that adds a buzzing effect.

The instrument was originally created by African slaves in Peru in the 19th century, but it was later adopted and popularized in Flamenco music by Spanish musicians. Today, it is an essential accompaniment in the Flamenco ensemble, providing rhythm and texture to the music.

In recent years, the martillo de tor has gained popularity outside of Spain and is used in various musical genres like Latin and world music. It is a versatile and portable percussion instrument that is easy to play and adds a unique flavor to any musical composition.
